Dear Parents and Carers
I am sure that you are aware that the government met yesterday to review the response to the Covid-19 virus.
While they confirmed new measures have now been put in place, most importantly the government confirmed that:
UK schools should remain open and continue to operate normally at this time
The Richard Barnes Academy will continue to follow the government’s advice and will remain open until we are advised otherwise.
The government did announce an additional measure for schools that means:
School trips abroad will not be permitted
Fortunately, we have no trips abroad planned over the next few weeks and therefore are unaffected by this announcement.
In the event of a forced closure to the school all communications regarding the closure, support for your child and updates on the announcements from the government will be sent to parents via email where we have your email address. If you know that we do not have a record of your email address, or you have recently changed your email address could you please let the school office know your details as soon as possible. All communications will also be posted on the school website in the ‘urgent news’ section.
In the event of a closure the class teachers have been asked to provide work for your child - which could be in the form of a project, work pack or on-line learning.
We will inform you immediately in the event of a forced closure, but until that point all learners are expected to attend as normal.
May I also remind you to encourage your son or daughter to wash their hands regularly using soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
We will continue to update you on the situation as new announcements are made by the government, and want to reassure you that the school’s leadership team are preparing for all possible scenarios. This is an extraordinary period of time for everyone, including schools, and I want to thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
