At the Richard Barnes Academy we are committed to ensure that careers and aspirations is embedded throughout all aspects of school life. The Richard Barnes Academy is devoted to ensuring that all learners have an appropriate and sustainable Post-16 destination that is tracked and supported.

Understanding pupils career choices and aspirations is paramount to a pupils success at school and also in preparing them for their future lives. Therefore the information on this page is relevant to pupils/parents/carers, employees and staff.

Learners at The Richard Barnes Academy are encouraged to explore a wide range of career choices through our information and guidance programme.  We aim to prepare our pupils for future opportunities in the world of study and ultimately their working life. Pupils gain knowledge and develop skills in employability awareness.

Information to come

Key Stage 3

All learners have the opportunity to attend a Careers Fair, which opens up a whole new window of different employment opportunities available to them, with information on apprenticeships, college courses, university prospects and employment.

KS3 pupils also have a term of PSHE lessons focused on careers where pupils look into career jobs information and advice, possible job ideas, matching their skills and qualities to two career options. They also get the chance to talk to the careers advisor at KS3 parents evenings.

Key Stage 4

All learners are able to have in-house careers guidance in the form of individual and group meetings on post 16 pathways, apprenticeships and college courses.  In addition to this, learners are able to access taster days and open evenings at our local FE providers.

Alumni of the Richard Barnes Academy have gone on to pursue a variety of Post 16 options including;

  • Foundation course entry at university
  • Joining the army
  • Apprenticeships
  • Sixth form study
  • College courses
  • Internships and jobs with training

To reflect the changes and the labour market needs of Peterborough we are continually reviewing our options programme at KS4 to include more vocational courses in partnership with Peterborough College. Examples of this can be seen in the following courses:
