We monitor attendance and punctuality closely and if there are concerns, we work with the pupils, parents/carers and the Education Welfare Officer to support improvement.

Holidays during the school term are not permitted and will not be authorised.

Regular attendance is essential if pupils are to achieve their full potential.  We expect all pupils to have good attendance.  The attendance target for all pupils is at least 96%.

Parent/Carer Responsibilities

  • Parents/carers must telephone the school on the first day of absence and subsequent days thereafter, before 9.30 am, when our register closes.  It is the Parent/Carer’s responsibility to contact the school every day their child is absent.
  • Parents/carers must ensure their child returns to school as soon as possible and provide any medical evidence, if requested, to support the absence.  Medical evidence may be requested where a child is having multiple periods of absence which are reported as being due to medical reasons, i.e. Illness. When determining whether a child is too ill to attend school, both parents and school staff can consider advice on the NHS website.
  • If an absence is longer than two days then medical evidence must be provided.

It is important that pupils attend on a regular basis.  However, there may be occasions when a pupil is unable to attend due to ill health or for other legitimate reasons.

If you would like support with your children's attendance please contact our Attendance Officer Mrs K Woodcock via email:  office@rjba.education or by phoning the school number.

Home visits

If your child has been absent for more than 3 days and we have not had notification of this, we have a duty of care to carry out a home visit to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child. Please be aware that if we do not see your child during this visit, we may  have to  escalate to the Police.

It is essential that the school is notified of any absence by telephone or text by 9:30am
