The Richard Barnes Academy takes its responsibility for implementing the Prevent strategy very seriously. As a learning organisation, we are committed to responding to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat the Academy community faces from those who promote terrorism. Our Prevent Panel meets three times a year to ensure that the Academy has a clear, effective and up-to-date action plan and risk assessment to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
The Personal Development curriculum and tutor time programme at the Richard Barnes Academy actively promotes fundamental British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Children are encouraged to share their views and recognise that they are entitled to have their own different beliefs which should not be used to influence others.
The Secretary of State has launched a website to support parents, teachers and school leaders. The site brings together the best advice, support and resources available for parents, teachers and school leaders who want to learn how to protect young people from extremism and radicalisation, and is the result of a successful collaboration between the Department for Education, the Home Office, the NSPCC, Internet Matters, Childnet, ParentZone, UK Internet Safety Centre, and the many other organisations who have contributed resources.
